Mysore district administration has established building centre called "MYSORE NIRMITHI KENDRA" on 31st March 1989 as nongovernmental organization through HUDCO by Govt. Of India and Govt. of Karnataka to promote low cost techniques in the district of Mysore. which is located at Bogadi layout, Mysore.
The Promoting Agency
The Karnataka State Building Centre (KARNIK) is an independent apex body coordinating all the Nirmithi Kendras in the state setup by the Government of Karnataka. The main objectives of KARNIK are transfer of technology from lab to land, dissemination of these technologies to th masses, training in alternate building technology options and promotion of new centres and monitoring the straitegic requirement of the building centre. The Mysore Nirmithi Kendra was set up in 1989.
The main activities of this Nirmithi Kendra training, production of cost effective building materials and construction of buildings with cost effective building technology, advising individuals on housing construction (consultancy) and training engineers, builders, masons and labourers.
History of the Mysore Nirmithi Kendra
Mysore Nirmithi Kendra is a successful Building Centre functioning under the national network of Building Centres Scheme promoted by Government of India through HUDCO and is being implemented by Government of Karnataka. Nirmithi Kendra is located on a Government land of 1.15 acres in Bogadi Layout of Mysore City. It is functioning under the overall patronage of District Administration and Zilla Panchayat. It has a governing body with Deputy Commissioner as chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Zilla Panchayat as executive chairman for managing the day to day affairs of the Kendra.
The BC’s main activity is training, production, construction of buildings, and consultancy using both cost effective as well as conventional technology. This constitutes 95% of the activity undertaken by the BC. The rest of the activities are training and operating a housing guidance cell. The margin of operation is 5% of the total cost of each project. The BC has worked with local Panchayats, in building schools, community halls, Ambedkar Bhavans, School Sanitation Projects, etc., These works are entrusted through Zilla Panchayat, District Administration, Government Departments, private and public institutions.
